Sold in The Cathedral Close

Myddelton & Major sell hat trick of properties in The Close

Myddelton & Major have negotiated the sale of three varying properties in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close.

Apartments one and two Aula Le Stage occupy one of the Close’s most iconic buildings and boast numerous period features as well as stunning views of the cathedral.

Number 116 The Close meanwhile, is situated in the development of Sarum St Michael, a former college, located in the heart of the Close.

Myddelton & Major Partner Sarah Cull said: “Purchasing a property in The Close is like owning your very own piece of history and all three of these properties prompted a high level of interest.”

The origins of Aula Le Stage date back to the 13th century, and it is believed it was used as a canonry until 1850.

The tower which forms part of the building was added in the 15th century making the building at that time the only house in The Close with three storeys – hence it was gifted the name Aula Le Stage, meaning house or hall with upper story.

Apartment one is a ground floor apartment featuring a dramatic and spacious drawing room with two, large, stone, mullioned, leaded light windows, one of which offers views to the cathedral.

Its equally impressive dining room features cornicing and timber panelling and three, leaded light windows overlooking the garden.

No. 2 Aula Le Stage is peacefully situated in the rear of the building and offers very good sized living accommodation laid out over three floors.

Its charming kitchen/breakfast room is believed to occupy the space which was once used as a chapel, and the apartment also enjoys a private garden.

Number 116 The Close is on the second floor of Queens House in the Sarum St Michael development, which was a former teacher training college.

The apartment offers some delightful, far reaching views over medieval buildings, communal grounds and countryside beyond and its new owner will be able to enjoy the use of three acres of communal gardens which run down to the river, and fishing rights in the adjoining stretch of the Avon.
