Metal specialists recycle WWI aircraft hangar
Transport and recycling specialist Guyatts of Salisbury has acquired a former First World War aircraft hangar adjacent to Old Sarum Airfield.
Property consultancy Myddelton & Major successfully negotiated the sale of Distlock House to the long-established Wiltshire firm.
Quoting freehold price for the 17,856 sq ft (1,658.82 sq m) building was £800,000.
Myddelton & Major Partner Dean Speer said: “Guyatts metal merchants was founded in 2012 by husband and wife team Roy and Lynda Guyatt, to run alongside their already successful haulage business Guyatts of Salisbury crane assisted haulage.
“The Guyatts name has long been synonymous with metal recycling and the business is fully licensed to buy all types of metals, ferrous and non-ferrous, and even batteries at Salisbury’s fully equipped recycling centre. They also specialise in transport and crane assisted haulage”
Distlock House is a former World War I aircraft hangar used as a factory/workshop building. The building, which is Grade II* Listed retains its original sliding hangar doors, potentially providing full width access.
There are also two ancillary buildings providing office accommodation, plus a good sized staff canteen and restrooms. On the southern side of the main building there is a lean-to extension with additional storage and workshop space.
The property is situated adjoining the Old Sarum Airfield, which lies approximately three miles north of Salisbury city centre, just off the A345 Salisbury to Amesbury Road.
As well as the private airfield, the area has been developed into a thriving business park, housing a range of industrial and distribution occupiers. Distlock House is situated adjoining the airfield and other original buildings dating from its first development.
Myddelton & Major was named the most active agency in Wiltshire in 2019 for the eighth year running by Estates Gazette, the weekly and online magazine of the UK commercial property industry.
