Hospice charity’s fourth retail outlet
An independent charity is looking forward to the end of lockdown shopping restrictions to reopen its prominent new retail outlet in Romsey town centre.
Mountbatten Hampshire (formerly Countess Mountbatten Hospice) acquired premises at 6 Church Street in a deal brokered by property consultancy Myddelton & Major.
Quoting rent for the 779 sq ft (72.37 sq m) ground floor premises was £19,250 per annum and Mountbatten Hampshire agreed a 10-year lease.
Myddelton & Major Partner Simon Lee said: “This new town centre premises for this established local charity is in a prominent trading position and will continue to add the retail offering in Romsey once Covid-19 restrictions are eased.
“We had strong interest in this property and Mountbatten Hampshire’s shop increases the rich tapestry of Romsey’s predominately independent traders.”
Mountbatten Hampshire is a charity which provides free care and support to people with any life-limiting illness, including respiratory disease, Motor Neurone Disease, heart disease, advanced dementia, respiratory disease and cancer.
“The Romsey shop is our fourth retail outlet – with others in Hedge End, West End and Weeke, Winchester – as we look to grow our retail offer across the areas we provide services,” said Mountbatten CEO Nigel Hartley.
“Income from our shops helps us to fund our services but our shops also give us an important presence in our local high streets.
“We are the local hospice for Romsey and the surrounding areas, delivering services within people’s own homes as well as our hospice building in West End, Southampton.”
The shop premises, part of an interesting three storey period building, is in Church Street which is off of the Market Place in the centre of Romsey and the historic Abbey lies immediately behind the property.
Other occupiers nearby include Costa Coffee, Santander, W H Smith with the Smith Bradbeer Department Store in Bell Street.
Myddelton & Major was named the most active agency in Wiltshire in 2020 for the ninth year running by Estates Gazette, the weekly and online magazine of the UK commercial property industry.
